The Knowledge Base article for the CRM 2011 Update Rollup 12 (a.k.a December 2012 Release) release (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2795627) was made public yesterday. I wanted to let you know that even though the KB says UR12 is available now (KB is published 1 week prior to release), it will actually be posted next Thursday, January 10th to the Microsoft Download Center and will be live on Microsoft Update on January 22nd.

In addition to the UR12 KB, there are a number of other KBs that have been published on some specific topics tied to the December 2012 Service Update and Update Rollup 12. These articles were also published yesterday and today in preparation for next week’s release.

CRM + Social = Win

The social space is one that is now an everyday part of our lives, and I’m reminded regularly of just how strong our desire for being connected is. The video below is from the 2012 Dreamforce Conference, yes I know that’s for SaleFore, and it shows how one of the largest organizations in the world (GE) is leveraging CRM + Social applications to connect their employees, customers, and vendors to strengthen relationships.

Internet Performance on a VPN

I recently ran into a problem of my internet performance slowing to a crawl, when I connected to a client’s VPN. Fortunately, a Bing.com search returned a forum thread that explained what was going on and provided a solution that returned my performance to its original state. For reference, I took the following steps

Open the properties for the VPN connection
Click the Networking tab
Select Internet Protocal Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Click the ‘Properties’ button, to display the Properties form
Click the ‘Advanced…’ button, to display the Advanced TCP/IP Settings form
Uncheck ‘Use default gateway on remote network’
Click the ‘OK’ button on the Advanced TCP/IP Settings form
Click the ‘OK’ button on the Properties form
Repeat steps 3 – 8 if Internet Protocal Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) is also available
Click the ‘OK’ button on the VPN Properties form
Connect/Reconnect to the VPN

CRM 4.0 and ASP.Net 4.0 Place Nice

Now a days, I don’t do much work with CRM 4.0, other than the regular old upgrade project. Any way, the company I work for, InterDyn BMI, still has a few clients using it, and on a recent engagement I came across an issue while trying to deploy a new test environment. The issue was that the CRM 4.0 system verification kept failing with a message of

‘ASP.NET 2.0 Is Not Installed or Is Not Registered on This Computer‘.

That was odd since the server had ASP.NET install. Fortunately someone else, Ronny Van der, had already come across and address this issue. To see Ronny’s solution go to

For my Father and Mother

My dad and mom recently retired, after thirty-five years of being a fighter pilot, from the United States Air Force. To honor them, I gave a toast at the retirement party and read a poem, I wrote, titled "One More". To celebrate and remember my words, I've put my toast and poem below.

May I have a few minutes of everyone's time. I'd like to toast my mother and father. To begin I'll share a poem. One that I've tried to write many times, but only found the right words for today. It's titled "One More"

Just one more chance, one more,
To see the ground out my canopy,
To hear the engines roar as I vault into the sky.
Just one more chance, to feel the trigger before putting rounds on target.

Just one more opportunity, one more,
To follow in the footsteps of heroes,
To lead the patriots of this country.
Just one more opportunity, to defend our freedom.

Just one more day, one more,
To sit in the cockpit,
To salute and revel in the company of the airmen I lead.
Just one more day, to serve this great country.

Just one more, which really isn't that much, is all I ask for.

So dad, I gander you will always ache for just one more. The last thirty-five years or your and mom's story has largely been defined by those items and the direction the Air Force has sent you in;thus, the ache is to be expected. However, tonight we are not here to ache over the past chapters of your story. Rather we are here to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in your and mom's story. A chapter where you two are the author and editor. That's right no longer is our government your editor.

So here is to my hero and heroine. I, we, your friends, family, and parents are proud of you. Now go start your new chapter in your dream home.

VM Random Shutdown

I recently switched over to VirtualBox for running my VM’s. While VirtualBox is a great product, I was encountering issues with my Windows based VM’s randomly shutting down or restarting. Fortunately, a few others had encountered this issue and came up with the work around listed below

Start VirtualBox
Start the desired VM and signin
Open a command prompt windows as an Admin and enter
powercfg -list

This command will list the available Power Schemes, with an * at the end of the line for the active Power Scheme
If (High performance) is not the active Power Scheme run the following command
powercfg -setactive “8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c”

NOTE!!!
The default power schemes (Balanced, High performance, & Power saver) have the same GUID on all Windows machine, so you should have no issue with running the above command.
Now rerun
powercfg -list

To verify that the Power Scheme has changed.

Hopefully you don’t run into this issue but if you do maybe the above will help you out.

Add a Deployment Admin in MSCRM with T-SQL

Have you ever needed to add yourself as a Deployment Administrator in MSCRM, and not been able to because the existing admins are busy? Well if you have access to the SQL you can run the query below to add yourself or someone else as a Deployment Admin.

Note!!!
This will only work for on-prem deployments where you have write access to the MSCRM_CONFIG database
